Leeds United Women fell to defeat against Yorkshire rivals Hull City Ladies, with the win at the Bannister Prentice Stadium sealing the FAWNL Division One North title for the Tigresses.

In what was a frantic start in swirling winds in Garforth, Carrie Simpson did well early on under pressure to collect Rachael Ackroyd's looping cross from the left, before Lucy Turner was on hand to clear a dangerous delivery as the visitors worked the ball out to the flanks.

Simpson then had to be alert and raced out to smother before Hope Knight could latch onto a loose pass as Hull began to dominate possession in the first half.

City sharpshooter Helen Lynskey, tied with United's Jess Rousseau in the race for the league's golden boot, had the first real sight of goal, albeit one from distance as her speculative effort was easily pickings for Simpson.

After a cagey opening 25 minutes, Hope Knight went close for the visitors, dragging wide of the far post after showing great skill to evade the challenge of Harriet Jakeman.

Knight wasn’t to be denied an opener for too long however, drilling into the bottom corner from the edge of the area moments later.

The Whites fell further behind 10 minutes before the break when Lynskey's deep free kick flashed across the face of goal and nestled in the far corner.

The visitors could, and probably should, have extended their lead before the break when Knight pounced onto a loose pass and rounded Simpson, but blazed over with the goal at her mercy.

HALF TIME: Leeds United Women 0-2 Hull City Ladies

Simon Wood's side responded brightly after the restart with Kath Smith first shooting over from distance, before Katie Astle stung the palms of Abigail Wallace in the Tigresses' goal after being picked out in space by marauding full-back Charlyann Pizzarello.

Wallace then made a superb reaction save to deny Alice Hughes' powerful header, with the midfielder rising highest to meet Sarah Danby's inviting delivery at the back post.

As Leeds piled bodies forward in the search for a lifeline, City began to pose a threat on the counter and almost had a third through Ellie Tanser, with the captain seeing her well-struck effort cannon back off the upright and away from danger.

A third did come shortly afterwards as Shakala Brookes was well-placed to bundle home at the back post, before Ackroyd delicately lifted the ball over the onrushing Simpson to add a fourth for her side.

A long-distance strike from Knight put the visitors further in front, but Leeds were to get on the scoresheet when Rousseau reacted quickest to a rebound after initially seeing her late spot kick saved well by Wallace.
